How often have you dreaded wearing that nice, brand new pair of shoes because wearing new shoes mean bearing the pain of an unseasoned pair of shoes? For me, it happens a lot! Not that I don’t buy shoes in the correct sizes. Naturally I try on the shoes at the store before buying them and whilst they fit perfectly and even felt comfortable during the try, they turn out to be such a killer when you wear them for the first few times after the purchase.

Because of that, many pairs of my shoes have been kept untouched. Only to be looked at with a sigh. I once complained about this experience of mine and I got some great tips on how to make new shoes more comfortable. They’re very simple, but they work!

Firstly, buy your shoes during the hottest time of the day. That, presumably would be in the afternoon when the sun is scorching hot. This is because your feet expand with the heat and become their largest during this time of the day. Trying on shoes during this period will ensure that you fit into a pair that will accommodate the expanded size of your feet comfortably.

You may also ask the store assistant to use a shoe stretcher to help you stretch out the new shoes a little. This will provide some comfort as the shoes get loosened up a little.

Often, wearing new shoes can be painful as the unseasoned sides of the shoes bite into your flesh. To soften these edges, rub some lotion onto the sides. I’m not kidding, I did this to my new shoes and they went on my feet smoothly and gently! Alternatively, you can also use some wax to rub along the edges of your shoes. The only thing with waxing your shoes is that it can get a little messy as pieces of the wax could drop into your shoes.
