For a while now, many people have been promoting the consumption of soursop as a means to kill cancer cells. The claim is that soursop works better than chemotherapy as some cancerous cells are resistant to chemo treatments. The question is, are soursop fruits really a cure for cancer and a better alternative to chemotherapy for cancer patients?
The soursop fruit – a miracle cure for cancer?
If you do a search on the internet on this topic, you are likely to find many sources that stand by the goodness of soursop to help cancer patients battle cancer instead of undergoing chemotherapy. Besides the fresh fruit itself, there are also many types of soursop supplements in the market. Do they really work?

Can graviola cure cancer?
Graviola is something that comes from a tree in the rain forests of Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia. Its scientific name is Annona muricata. It is also known as cherimoya, guanabana, soursop, custard apple, and brazilian paw paw. In many countries, people use the bark, leaves, root, and fruits of this tree for traditional remedies. The active ingredient is thought to be a type of plant compound (phytochemical) called annonaceous acetogenins.
People in African and South American countries have used graviola to treat infections with viruses or parasites, rheumatism, arthritis, depression, and sickness. We know from research that some graviola extracts can help to treat these conditions.
In laboratory studies, graviola extracts can kill some types of liver and breast cancer cells that are resistant to particular chemotherapy drugs. But there haven’t been any large scale studies in humans. So we don’t know yet whether it can work as a cancer treatment or not. Overall, there is no evidence to show that graviola works as a cure for cancer. Many sites on the internet advertise and promote graviola capsules as a cancer cure, but none of them are supported by any reputable scientific cancer organisations.
We know very little about how graviola affects the body. But we do know it can cause nerve changes, causing symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease. So it may have harmful side effects for some people. Always talk to your doctor before taking any kind of complementary or alternative therapy.Graviola costs more than £5 for 100 capsules. The manufacturers advise taking 2 capsules, 3 to 4 times a day. So 100 capsules could last less than 2 weeks.

my husband was diagnosed with liver cancer stage 4 and we really would want to know from the people who experienced it if i will not have harmful effect on the liver. my husband is only 29 yrs old and i’m 28.. we we’re fighting this for our 1 year old son. we still have faith to GOD.

that you still have faith in God and I think that is most important that

But what actually that you want God to do for you? Do you want God to

God has already showed us the way to be healed and continuing faith in
His goodness is very important. Coming from Manila, there is a strong
possibility that you are either Catholic or Protestant Christian. If it
is, then I would like to tell you that the Bible did gave indication
that leaves are used for healings of the nation.
I believe you should take the Graviola leaves (stems etc) and boil them
briefly and then consume them. Do not do more than 30 days at a time.
Trust God to heal your husband. He loves your whole family!
Btw, Graviola is commonly available in the Philippines too
A poor lady who has been diagnosed for blood cancer. she is barely 30 years n has 3 young boys 9,6& 4. some one suggested to start on soursop.But this fruit is not freely available in Bombay In India, someone please advice the nearest n cheapest way to acquire this fruit (soursop)or suggest an alternative medicine/cure for blood cancer. my friend has two cancerous tumours in the liver. she has taken sour sop leaves for 30days. now she has eaten sour sop fruit too. after eating it for 3days she’s feeling weak. her stomach is blotted and there is swelling on the legs so she has stopped taking it. is it because of the healing process? hope she will be better now. i have strong faith in god that she will live!
Howmany soursop fruits should we eat to prevent cancer?
We buy the soursop ( chirimoya ) in the local supermarket in Spain.
I had cancer already but i am clean now and would like to prevent another popup.
By now, there is no sufficient studies by date (I mean, randomized clinical trials) to prove the anti-cancer properties of soursop, however, we don’t have to wait for some concerned researchers to spend large sums without expecting something in return (to recover their expenditures by patenting the drug out of it).
Those who had their own testimonies on how the fruit worked on their cancer thinks that it worked without needing any number of studies to prove it. I personally witnessed a case healed by soursop leaves infusion.
I’d rather develop an atypical form of Parkinson’s disease (the only known health risk so far) and live for 10 more years than to die in stage 4 liver cancer within months. It’s easier to cure nerve changes disease than a metastatic cancer. It’s a matter of faith and the principle of beneficence.
* I guess the climate in the Philippines is nearly the same in India, so perhaps you can consider growing the plant there and help your fellow countrymen find a cheaper alternative to chemotherapy.

I suffer liver cancer. I got chemo 44 hours every two weeks. My chemo package just completed last month (dec 2010).
Between chemo I took soursop leave tea and had no side effects.
Now I continue with low dosage oral chemo (5fu capsul). And I still drink soursop leave tea. I drink it 1 hour after I took my capsul. I get no side effect.

Hi I am from Kerala, India. This plant is plentiful here, and the fruit has gritty taste and filled with seeds.It is a good source of calcium. We take this fruit regularly during season, but haven’t been taught about its medicinal properties till now.
I leave in the Caribbean. We have Papaya, guanabana, noni and other trees like those everywhere. People have been eating the fruits and taking the teas for different conditions over centuries. I don t knw if it cures cancer, but as long as you use the fresh stuff, nothing bad is going to happen. H
If d soursop fruit is medicinal as has been reported & there’s been no adverse effects from consumption,then i guess we have got nothing to loose incorporating it in our daily diet just like the normal fruit time while we await results from case control studies & clinical trials.
Who even wrote this thread?…soursop is a high medicinal plant used for centuries by people who dont care about profits other than healing people. The same people putting chemicals in your food and water causing all these cancers is the ones telling you that natural remedies doesnt work. This is not the best website to look over so please do more research.
BUT one thing i do agree on is that capsules are ineffective try to consume fresh fruit or leaves.
if it cures cancer, prevents cancer or fungus infection it is fruit and we have to take fruit daily. so lets take it as fruit rather than taking it as medicine and waiting for results as soon as possible.

i have also believe the soursop has healing properities. The fruit has its purpose, but base on the experience of a woman in Jamaica who cure of cancer, her husband prepare a tea with the bark and leaves of the tree. I have an auntie with two friends who was dying of cancer my auntie advised them to try this soursop remedie for their cancer. I’m from south america and we have consumed soursop our whole life and there is no such effect as nerve changes. Whoever wrote this “useful tip” has no idea about soursop and its benefits. So people, you better don’t read this type of stupid blogs where they try to convince you of not taking what mother nature gave us.
We know what we have and when you’re in a situation that you are not anymore in control ( like having cancer ), you try to get hold of anything that you think could help. Using natural products would be the safest and wisest thing to do.
If you have the resources ( financially, that is ) get your chemo treatments, and if your body can still take it. You can still take the guyabano while undergoing chemo. It would help lessen the side effects and boost your immune system.

There was a study done that proved that tiny test rats with tiny brains can get symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease if they were to consume much higher amounts of the cancer killing natural chemical found in soursop. Than any person would ever consume. @Joy, you have to research well to see what else has to be done besides just taking treatment. Sour-sop is a proven cancer killer but it will not work if you don´t give your body the right conditions to heal itself… This mean that you should be on a strictly vegan diet. Raw is preferable. Eliminate sugar, salt and oils from your diet. Drink lots of water. Coffee enemas have to be administered in order to help the liver eliminate the toxins from the body. Read up on the Gerson Therapy. Besides taking sour-sop, some aspects of the Gerson therapy can also be used to aid recovery…
