Don’t drink milk when you have gastric

by Tipsie on February 4, 2009

I was having a mild gastric yesterday and when I voiced it out, hubby told me to drink some milk to ease the gastric pain. But somewhere on the back of my mind, I remember hearing some advise about how milk will aggravate gastric pains even more than it provides relieve. I told him this and he said it can’t be, because an aunt of his has bad gastric problems and her doctor specifically told her to drink milk. Still not convinced, I decided to do some research about the effect of milk on gastric pains, whether milk relives gastric pains or worsen it. What do you think?

glass of milk Dont drink milk when you have gastric

From my searches on the internet, I found many forums and websites that suggest taking milk to help relieve gastric and stomach ulcer pains. This is because milk is an alkaline component and it will neutralise the acidity of the gastric juice in the stomach that is causing the gastric pains. However, upon further reading, I read that milk is only a short term relief to gastric.

Milk contains fats and protein. When these components enter the body system, they encourage more acid juices to be secreted in the stomach so that it can digest the proteins. So before long, you may find that your gastric may return. And if you keep drinking milk as a cure for gastric, it won’t help you in the long term. You can read more about the explanation on this from some short paragraphs here and here.

The next time you have gastric and prefer to take natural remedies to cure gastric pains, here are some things you can do:

1. Drink lots of water

2. Eat garlic (read about the health benefits of garlic here) – Long term consumption of garlic helps to prevent stomach acidity. For a quick relieve from gastric pains, you can try crushing 2 cloves of garlic and consuming it.

3. Drink apple cider vinegar (read about the benefits of apple cider vinegar here)- Apple cider vinegar and garlic can be combined help relieve gastric pains. Crush a couple of cloves of garlic into a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, refrigerate and take a spoonful for instant relief.

all the while id dint know drink milk can cause gastric to be even worst. Thanks for the info….. the surprise thing is i didn’t know drinking lots of water can cure it hehe

I think most people don’t realise it as well, but since we now know this, we can try better ways to relief the pain. Water is a good source for many health complications, though it is not a total cure, it does help to neutralise things, I feel.

My wife also has very severe gastric problem. Everytime this happen, she has to drink down 2L of mid warm plain water then force herself to vomit out the water. And if it is not enough to solve the problem, she will repeat the same method again. I will try your method of combining the apple cider vinegar with garlic and see how it work on her. Thank you for your suggestion.

I agree that milk can worsen the gastric conditions. I tried to sip on cold milk when I had an acid reflux, but instead I ended up burping badly due to gastric reactions. Apple cider vinegar is good for acid reflux so is chewing cloves. Otherwise take an antacid every day for about a week in the morning before breakfast.

Hi. guys

From experience i know that, milk, banana, beer, tea immediately after food worsen the gastric pain. You can try soy milk, it does not bother. Drinking water before breakfast does a miracle: at least 4 glasses of water 45min before breakfast. dont eat during this 45 min.

Cheers

From personal experience right through from childhood, I was always told not to drink milk when suffering from gastric. There was one very important exception however and that was when one was to attempt to cure the ailment. Sounds weird? That’s because a heaped teaspoon of nutmeg should be mixed in with ½ a glass of milk first. It worked every time for me and wasn’t that unpleasant to swallow. There may be some people who, for some reason, this doesn’t work for, but I think it’s worth trying.

Hello all
I am suffering gastric pain. As far as i experienced abt the use of milk in gastric pain somebody says it is good for your stomach some body says take cold milk Some says hot milk. But i m not satisfied with all. The cause of gastric pain can be Helicobector Pylori Antibodies ( Bacterial Desieses ) and One experienced doctor said in this situation u never ever take milk with any of condition ” hot, cold” even in whole life.
In start of my problem i was using a lot milk as my mate told me that is better for your gastric pain. In short i was about to die then Doctor stoped me to drink.
Some of my effective experience.
1. Take minimum 2 glass of water in the morning.
2. Take Good sleep min 8 hours. ( Anxiety, Stress releife )
3. If you do smoke then smoke after 30 mins of food ( it makes a lot of pressure if u do after a food.)
4. Avoid any extra medication ( not good for stomach )
5. Take Dinner 2 hours prior to sleep.
6. Use double pillow when u go bed.
Hope this tips can give you little reliefe As i am also patient and i can understand what kind of pain is this.
Zain ali.

Vinegar in any type and garlic, are the worse when a person has acid reflux, so be careful to have these two ingredients in your food before you eat, if you suffer from acid reflux. GI doctors recommend not to have these products if you suffer from acid reflux.

I just went through a kind of hell with the pain in my stomach… It was probably the worst pain I’ve ever had in my life. I have no idea of what caused it, but tried a lot of stuff, and researched it. I’ve noticed regular stomach pain in the past 1,5 years. Sometimes it’s there, after certain foods, but sometimes I don’t experience pain for months.
I think I collected some bad bacteria, and it’s still living in my system. Like candida, these bacteria are very stubborn, and it’s not easy to get rid of them. It needs consistency with the right diet and medication, supplements.
My tips for pain relief:
1. grapefruit seed extract – probably the best option. Very potent antibacterial, anti-viral agent. I have it in capsules. When I had the worst pain, I took 2 capsules and the pain eased and stopped in 15 minutes!!!!
2. totally avoid spicy food! – they irritate the stomach and bowels,
3. eat some probiotic yogurt, that contains good bacteria like bifidobacterium lactis, and lactobacillus acidophilus. They’ll help you to fight bad bacteria, and restore healthy digestion.
4. no alcohol, coffee, or other stimulants, no sweets,
5. camomile tea (without sugar or lemon) has an effective calming, anti inflammatory effect on the whole digestive system.

Hope it helps. I can’t emphasize the grapefruit seed extract enough. It’s awesome!

as for my experienced gastric problem will stay forever in our body medicine will help and the doctors is always right good exercise will do better tensions.and too much thinking will only do bad its really proven milk is bad to our system do not join people that everytime we see them will make our blood rise to the top stay in a place where we can have a relaxation and makes ourself in the good mood eat when your hungry

30 yancey juson May 18, 2011 at 4:31 am

milk is not good if you have gastric problem , you will feel bloated and most likely gets tension, carrots and lettuce are good instead of oily or fatty foods .try to have exercise everyday for at least 15 mins. yes drinking water every morning 2 glasses and avoid fizzy drinks ,eat only when hungry ,reduce intake of sweet foods .avoid food with lemon, vinegar tomatoes ,if possible just eat small amount of food just say 2 pcs of biscuit during night time and going to sleep

Why would we take advice from some one who has so many grammatical errors in their assessment. Milk DOES help to relieve many of the symptoms of Atrophic Gastritis. If you’re in severe pain for more than 5 days in a row, DRINK SOME COLD MILK, it absolutely helps, it gives temporary relief to some one who has had none for an extended period of time.

Milk contains lactose and it is very difficult for a lot of people to digest it which is why you are not encouraged to take milk when you have gastric problem.
